PUCK

Augmented Reality
in Social Gatherings

Meet Puck, mod to your Google Home intended to support the teaching of a tabletop roleplaying game to players new and experienced. Puck essentially acts as a ghost player or npc in your roleplaying party that onboards players into a new campaign. The AI establishes a rapport between players in weeks before a game and aids in the fleshing out of a player's characters.

Puck aids in character creation and teaches new players how to play them by encouraging improv skills and acting skills. With more experienced players, Puck creates scenarios to improve cooperation skills or pushes them outside their comfort zone if they tend to play the same old character types.

PROBLEM

Through interviewing Game Masters, we discovered that what makes or breaks a fun campaign is whether or not the players are invested. It is infinitely more challenging to teach a game to players who are bored or players with egos, more so than the rules or mechanics of the game. Luckily D&D is a well known social empathy training tool.

INITIAL
STORYBOARDS

We needed to show this experience from three different perspectives. The Game Master, a new player, and an experienced player. Puck acted as the medium between the GM and players, as well as between the players themselves. The culmination of their pre-game onboarding would ultimately contributed to a better experience during the game itself.
